“One night we were in Florence, walking by the river Arno and we discovered that Sheliak was right over our heads at that moment.

A star from the Lyrae constellation representing string instruments, Sheliak is for us the union between strings and piano.

Trio Sheliak was founded in Florence in 2019 and immediately established itself on the chamber music international scene with numerous prizes, competitions and awards, including the Farulli Prize in the Abbiati Prize 2024, the Alberto Burri Prize 2023, the Luigi Nono Prize 2023 (with special prize for contemporary music) and the Filippo Nicosia Prize 2022. It is part of the Le Dimore del Quartetto network, from which it was also awarded as Ensemble of the Year 2022, and recently also passed the selection to become an ECMA ensemble.

In 2020, the Trio moved to Switzerland, and in June 2024 obtained the Master Specialized in Chamber Music with top marks and distinction at the Hochschule Bern in the class of Patrick Jüdt and at the Hochschule Luzern in the class of Hiroko Sakagami and Isabelle van Keulen.

Over the years, the Trio has also attended the Stauffer Center with the Quartetto di Cremona, courses at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena, the Jeunesses Musicales Deutschland and the European Chamber Music Academy (ECMA), where they had important encounters with masters such as Hatto Beyerle, Alfred Brendel, Clive Greensmith, members of the Cuarteto Casals and the Kuss Quartett.

He has performed at numerous festivals including Les Jardins Musicaux, Bühnen Bern, Piano Trio Fest, KKL Luzern, Associazione Chamber Music Trieste, Lingotto Musica, Amici della Musica di Firenze, Società dei Concerti di Trieste. In January 2024 the Trio made his debut in China with a concert tour between Beijing and Chongqing.

Recently Trio Sheliak was named winner of the Jürg Müller Foundation prize as the best chamber group at the Hochschule Bern, thanks to which it will give a concert with Daniel Sepec and Patrick Jüdt.

Emanuele Brilli

violin

I grew up with the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole as my second home, the place that made me realise that music teaches life.

I then moved to Lugano to continue my studies with Klaidi Sahtçi, who passed on a great passion to me: I can still hear his advice in my ears when I study!

The Luzerner Sinfonieorchester Academy allowed me to meet great conductors and to participate in the Lucerne Festival, with an orchestra that welcomed me like family.

With the Trio, we just concluded a wonderful journey in Lucerne and Berne, sharing life and passion for music, and so many kilometres!

Matilde Michelozzi

cello

I began my studies in Italy, graduating with top marks in Florence and then specialising in various academies with teachers such as Dindo, Sollima and Delepelaire.

I have worked in various orchestras and have always played a lot of chamber music, my great passion.
A few years ago, I made a decision that definitely changed my life: I moved to Switzerland to begin a Master Performance in cello with Patrick Demenga.

I then decided to devote myself fully to chamber music, always together with my partners of Trio Sheliak!

I love walking in the fresh air and discovering the cities I travel to for work. For me, music is energy, instinct and sharing.

Sergio Costa

piano

My passion for music emerged very early, within the walls of my home, where I made my first harmonic experiments on my sister’s keyboard. Fascinated by polyphony since childhood, my path took me from the Conservatory of Florence to Piedmont and then to Switzerland, to study with pianists such as Enrico Pace and Anna Kravtchenko, and then to Lucerne and Bern, following the shared ideal of chamber music together with my Trio partners.

I enjoy making music enchanted by the magic of musical language and playing together, and I occasionally turn into a keyboard player and love to range between genres.

Always passionate about technology, astronomy and space exploration, when I’m not thinking about notes I love to lose myself in those distant worlds and immerse myself in nature as an improvised cyclist or hiking enthusiast.
